Chevrolet Corvette C8 Info
The Chevrolet Corvette (C8) is the eighth generation of the Corvette sports car manufactured by American automobile manufacturer Chevrolet.
Chevrolet Corvette was born in 1953 and till today, there are 8 generations of this sports car model, with the latest being the 2020 Corvette C8. The Chevrolet Corvette is not only an American national treasure super sports car, but also GM’s top-end super muscle sports car brand. The Corvette is wild and unpretentious with a powerful V8 engine that can unleash stunning horsepower, making it a symbol of the pursuit of super muscle sports cars by the Americans.
The Corvette can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only around three seconds and its top speed is even more astonishing. Besides a strong straight-line acceleration, the Corvette’s performance on the track is equally impressive. In 2011, the Chevrolet C6 ZR1 set an amazing lap time of 7:19.63 at the Niirburgring Nordschleife. On top of that, the Corvette has long been active in the Indy 500 as a safety car. More than 1.5 million units of the Corvette series have been produced so far, with a vast majority being sold in the United States. The model represents US’ history, culture, spirit and top-end automotive technology.
It is the sports car that best reflects the American spirit. The Corvette C8 is the first ever mid-engine Corvette. It is also the largest MR sports car ever made in the United States. As a lineage of this signature American performance car, the new generation of the Corvette simply cannot fail. Chevrolet put a lot of effort into this generation of the Corvette. First and foremost, the company managed to achieve the mid-engine, rear wheel-drive layout, something which Chevrolet said they have been trying to do for more t1ian 60 years. In 1959, Zora Arkus Duntov, the father of the Corvette, began to develop “CERV I”, which was also the first time the concept of a mid-engine layout was brought to the Corvette brand.
That sowed the seed for Chevrolet’s subsequent attempts to harness the potential and possibility of a mid-engine layout. Sports cars with the engine behind the cab are generally only equipped with a truck at the front, but the Corvette C8 takes a different approach by making full use of the narrow space between the engine and the taillights at the rear. This rear luggage compartment can accommodate long and narrow utensils, golf clubs and musical instruments. In addition, the roof of the Corvette C8 can be removed and completely tucked into the narrow trunk. This allows the Corvette C8 to switch between a hardtop coupe and a roadster at will.
